Episode 88- Have you weighed in on the gluten debate? Why are so many people suddenly reacting to this protein found in wheat and other grains.? In this episode, hear how Jenna and Amber each feel about gluten in their own lives and in the lives of their children. Hear about gluten intolerance symptoms and what grains contain it. We discuss how the gluten protein is not easily broken down in the body, and how it can cause leaky gut. • New research shows that gluten intolerance could be related to glyphosate in Round-up (herbicide used on wheat and made by Monsanto)
  • According to NPR: It is common practice among farmers to spray their wheat crops with glyphosate immediately prior to harvest—doing so actually kills the plant, which speeds the required drying of the grain. This is called "dessication." This practice makes it easier for farmers to time when they harvest their wheat crops, and allows for more uniform drying.
  • According to Samsel and Seneff note that "Fish exposed to glyphosate develop digestive problems that are reminiscent of celiac disease. Celiac disease is associated with imbalances in gut bacteria that can be fully explained by the known effects of glyphosate on gut bacteria."
  • Could glyphosate be the root of the current wave of gluten intolerance? What do you think?
