Preparing one’s body, mind and spirit to grow a healthy human being could be one of the most important and profound services a woman could offer her family and even the planet.
As parents, we have an innate desire to do all that we can to ensure our children live a happy and healthy life. Why not start from the very beginning, offering our unborn children the best head start possible: good genetics.
In my research, i have found that one can optimize the genetics that are passed down to your unborn baby. I began to realize that the journey of a child’s health does not begin the day they are birthed into the world, rather it starts the moment of conception when your cellular make-up marries your partner’s.
Considering the level of importance when looking at the job your genes have ahead of them, why not support their success and do all you can to help them be as strong, healthy and vibrant as possible?
What is the best approach to take if we want to assist our genes being their healthiest?
Targeting our physical health is the most obvious and tangible of all the components we need to focus on that make up our health. The other pieces of the pie that are needed to make up a whole (human being) are our intellectual, emotional, energetic, and spiritual selves. Equal attention is needed for each of these components if we wish to achieve a holistic and effective internal spring-cleaning for genetic optimization.
How do you know if you need to do your internal laundry? Here are some life elements that affect our health and happiness. Ask yourself…
It is easy to fall asleep to life, drop into autopilot, and forget that every choice we make is forming our world around us. Preparing for conception is a great way to wake up and take control of our life choices in a positive and assertive manner.
Here are some key points to prepare for a conscious conception:
Calling in your baby’s spirit
Before I could even start thinking about the practical aspects of preparing for pregnancy, I had a burning urge to connect with this mysterious being that would be my child and respectfully request he/she join us when they were ready!
I believe our children choose us and when we declare that we are ready and waiting with arms and hearts open wide, the perfect little soul will hear us and start making their way closer. I find this declaration is best done with your partner, in a still and quiet space (under the stars is magical) where you can both connect with that huge, mystical life-giving energy one may call God, the Universe or nature.
Whatever your beliefs, welcome this force that is bigger than yourself, into your hearts and offer it your prayer.
"We are ready for our baby to join our family. Please guide her towards us covered in protection, health and joy. We love her and are here to welcome her into this wonderful planet, and support her being a whole and powerful human, holding a torch for goodness, peace and light in the world. We trust in divine timing and are ready when she is".
Having a still moment after this prayer to visualize you and your gorgeous growing belly and then baby in your arms never hurts the process of calling them in either.
The use of words and intention are a real thing. I have always found declaring something from my heart and opening myself to receive it to be very powerful. This initial step may very well be the first drop in the ocean of your dreams, soon to ripple beyond what you could imagine.
Detoxifying the body
“You are what you eat” couldn’t be a truer saying. The food we put in our mouth turns into the blood pumping through our veins, nourishment for our organs, skin, brain and hormones.
Would you put dirty, bad quality fuel into your precious, beautiful, state of the art sports car? NO! You would respect it and want to support its functioning to ensure it performs to its best for as long as possible. You would be careful to protect its inner workings with high grade, quality fuel.
It is sooo important that this attitude be applied when forming a relationship with our food; the quality of your life (and child’s) depends on it!
When we are housing a growing life inside of us, it is important to be well nourished and stocked up on minerals, vitamins, with a healthy immunity. This vital state of being will carry you and your baby all the way through to the birth in not only an efficient way but in a replenishing way. Remember, the choice is yours, food can either be supporting our cells to thrive or inflaming them, causing distress and disease. In short, food is either medicine or poison.
Why is it important to detoxify before getting pregnant? The average city-living person today is exposed to more toxins on a daily basis than ever before. The accumulation of heavy metals through pharmaceuticals, air pollution, soil, water and food contamination (corn syrup, artificial additives, pesticides, GMO, herbicides, hormones, antibiotics), are unavoidable. To prevent any type of complication with conceiving or your pregnancy, it is important to assist your body in letting go of as much toxicity as you can.
A gentle cleanse every six months or at least once a year, (some people fast/cleanse every month) is recommended, supporting your body to avoid disease and disorders.
There are three main areas that conception cleanses are commonly designed to target:
The name of the game is to open and clean your body in a gentle and sustainable way, hardcore crash diets and cleanses can be too harsh and confusing to the system, creating more problems later down the line.
Here are some diet/supplement/exercise and self care approaches that worked for me:
(All organic food)
Movement and exercise help eliminate toxins, get you into your body and help reduce stress.
When a person feels good in their body, their self-love meter naturally goes up and that is the type of mental/emotional/physical space that a little soul will want to join.
I suggest movement and exercise that lights you up, leaves you feeling sexy, glowing, joyful and strong.
Not only is exercise an integral element of detoxifying, but it can also be used to prepare your body to carry a baby and deliver with strength. I continued my usual exercise regime up until I was six month pregnant. This consisted of jogs or brisk walks on the beach and yoga almost on a daily basis.
Listen to your body and give it what it needs to build flexibility and strength.

Enjoying self-care rituals is a great way to get in the good habit of looking after the house that will house your babe. Not only does it feel good to nurture yourself but also it sends a message to your body that you love and respect it, allowing it to open, relax and receive.
Some fun self-care rituals include:
When I fell pregnant, I had this unexplainable urgency to shed any emotional blockages I had been carrying around. I knew on some deep level that if I were to grow a human from my cells, the feelings I hold in my body and thoughts that pass through my mind would be passed on energetically to my baby. My child would be inheriting my unresolved fears, pain and traumas.
Facing emotional blockages (usually from past relationships, family or significant friendships) can be a confronting idea, especially when we spend most of our life distracting ourselves form them, disappearing these unresolved scenarios to the back of our mind. If we are really committed to the health of our baby (and ultimately our freedom) than we will find the strength to tackle these demons head on.
If one is ready to fearlessly open their heart for a clear and powerful conception, here are some ways to clear out emotional mines:
The theme here is love and intention. Approaching conception with lovemaking that makes us feel deeply seen and nourished is the best environment for our little miracle to join us.
Some ideas on getting in the mood may be:
I think the most empowering path to conception - and anything you really want in your life - is to be clear and in action around your intention, yet know when to let go and surrender things to perfect timing and eventuation. It’s a fine balance, but when you tune into yourself through self-observation, you will sense which approach serves you best in the moment.
