Having a little sick toddler can have big impact on a family when it comes to everyone's immunity, sleep, emotional stamina and schedules.
Avoid this scary scenario by obliterating a cold at the first sign of a sniffle with these 7 all natural tips.
1. Organic Bone broth
This is a powerful medicine, packed full of vitamins and minerals that can combat bad bacteria in the gut and boost the immune system. I love "Bare Bones Broth" and signed up for a monthly order to make sure it is featured regularly on our family menu.
2. Green Juice with ginger, lemon and Vitamin C
Dark leafy greens are a superhero, designed to wipe out any bad guys in sight. They reduce inflammation, hydrate the system and are packed full of all the right enzymes, vitamins and minerals you need to keep on top of your immunity. Ginger and lemon are particularly good at killing bacteria and viruses. I suggest diluting half a glass of green juice with coconut water. Straight green juice is a powerful mix and can easily be too intense on a little body's digestive system. Adding the coconut water not only contributes to the hydration element but also offers the sweetness you may need to get a toddler's taste buds interested.
If you are lucky enough to have a toddler that has a tolerance for something this healthy then thats AWESOME, for others, try adding something in there that they love. This may look like a small amount of chocolate power, half a teaspoon of honey or some milk.
3. Bio-K Fermented Yogurt
These clever tubs of yogurt are packed full of good bacteria for the gut and are the quickest way to kill any bad bacteria that may be jeopardizing the immune system. There are flavors designed specifically for the kids that make these yummy, healthy treats very appealing. You can find these at Whole Foods Market. Depending on your babes sensitivity levels, one or two a day (spread out) is good.
4. Lots of water with green powder
Water will flush out toxins and keep the body hydrated. Adding green power to water puts in extra vitamins and nutrients whose job is to fight any lingering nasties. I use a brand called “Super Kids Vibrance” by "Vibrant Health" which the kids seem to love.
5. Extra sleep
Making solid, deep sleep a priority can be the very thing that kicks a sniffle over night. This could look like encouraging extra long naps during the day, or moving your whole schedule to make bed time an hour earlier than usual. Some lavender oil in a diffuser or (diluted with a carrier oil) on the bottom of your babes feet may also help them doze off sooner than later.
6. Avoid sugars and processed carbohydrates
This includes highly sugary fruit (grapes, bananas, mangoes) and juices. Sugars will feed any bacteria or virus that is causing harm in your babes body. Try cut them out completely until your bub has recovered or supplement them with some low sugar, antioxidant packed blueberries, raspberries, or strawberries.
7. Essential oils
There are particular essential oils that have intense bacteria-fighting qualities. I use a blend called “On guard” from Doterra.
Because these oils are pure and potent ALWAYS dilute them before applying to your babe. I put 2 drops in the palm of my hand with some coconut oil and rub it into my boys feet, a part of the body that absorbs most readily into the bloodstream.
During bath time I put a few drops of oil into the bath for him to breath in and soak up. I always be sure to remind him not to drink the water as it has special oil in it that is not good to drink. Also be sure not to intentionally put the water in his eyes, it will be well diluted but just incase, avoid the eyes!
This protocol is great for big people too! The only thing I would add would be to place some pure oregano oil in vegetable capsules (4-8 drops) and swallow. Start with 2 (morning and night) then up your dosage if your body is giving you the green light! Gargling with diluted (with olive oil) oregano oil and swallowing is also a great way to kick the bad guys out of town.
I hope this comes in handy next time you need it!!
