Interview with Taylor Eyewalker
What is Kundalini Yoga and how is it different to other yoga styles?
Kundalini yoga is a fully comprehensive yogic technology activating the nervous and glandular systems using mantra, kriya, pranayama and meditation. This practice is a fast track to change and opening up your consciousness. All systems of yoga inherently opens up the consciousness, but many of the other lineages of yoga are about opening up the physical body to sit for meditation. Kundalini is about opening up the light inside you and turning you on to your highest incarnation.
What are the main principles and belief's of kundalini yoga?
First of all, Kundalini Yoga is not a belief system, we call those BS ;)
Kundalini Yoga is a system to have a self experience, you can choose to have an experience or not. We understand that we are beings that came here to live a dharma, a path. We also have a tendency to create self imposed problems that create karma, hindering us in living our true path. A person can either live in Karma or Dharma, not both at the same time. This practice is about clearing the karma so we can live as dharma beings. With that, we have 5 Aquarian sutras that stand for the principles of this lineage.
1. Recognize that the other person is you.
2. There is a way through every block.
3. When the time is on you, start, and the pressure will be off.
4. Understand through compassion or you will misunderstand the times.
5. Vibrate the Cosmos. The Cosmos shall clear the path.
What are the origins of Kundalini, who brought it to the west?
I teach the form of Kundalini Yoga as taught by a man named Yogi Bhajan, Sant Hazara Singh, was his teacher. The origins of these teachings are far and wide throughout The Indus Valley Civilization, but the lineage and system that I share are from Yogi Bhajan himself. He is a man we would call the master or Kundalini Yoga and the one with whom organized this technology that is practiced here by many in the west.
What is mantra? Tell us about why it is used and the science behind it.
There’s so much technology in mantra, I would say it’s possibly the most important component within the practice of kundalini yoga. There’s a phrase in many spiritual texts. “First was the word and the word was God, The became light and light was the messenger.” Mantra is the rhythmic sound current that builds an energy field structure in spaces and around the body. This energy field has the ability to transform subconscious and conscious blocks within, in doing so that develops within you the ability to live in your highest destiny. Knowing how to access the power of mantra is like learning how to access the higher wisdom code within you.
What is a mudra?
Mudras create a circuit of conductive energy within the body. Different fingers correlate to different planets and when we connect to these fingers we can access the particular planetary energy.
Tell me about Kundalini rising?
Kundalini literally means coiled line. We use the practice of Bandha (Body Locks), mantra, pranayama and kriya to awaken the coiled line that rests at the base of the spine. When we unlock this line, the coil rises and awakens the nano crystals in the spine, thus bringing illumination to the body, healing, access to ones own energy potential and a greater level of awareness.
Have you met or heard stories of someone who has awakened their kundalini energy?
Yes many, I actually used to work with a healer a long time ago who opens up others kundalini energy. In hindsight it was quite intense and I may say it’s possible that some people may have had their energy opened too soon. In the system of kundalini yoga as taught by Yogi Bhajan, we consider the arc line, which is an arc of energy that moves from earlobe to earlobe on both men and women and from nipple to nipple for women. When we consider this part of the body, there is no way to blast the kundalini energy open in an unsafe manner, that is why I like the practice I do so much. It is a fully contained system and your Kundalini can be awakened safely and in timing and accordance with your own awakening.
How has a practice of Kundalini changed your life?
Kundalini yoga has profoundly changed my life. It has awakened within me my deep sense of fulfillment, happiness, healed my relationship with myself, my family, partnerships and I am getting to know the truth of who I am without my self imposed problems and stories that come so easy as a human. I now literally experience the joy and ecstasy that Life has to offer.
What principles does Kundalini instill in you that you apply to your everyday?
Sadhana, definitely sadhana. If there’s anything I can tell someone to do, it’s to create a daily practice of kundalini yoga and meditation. More specifically, the same practice daily. In that way you can receive the energy the practice offers to you.
The gong is used in Kundalini, what is it and what effect does it offer?
The gong has the ability to penetrate the subconscious mind. When we use the gong we get into the patterning of the subconscious mind to clear it.
White tantra is practiced in Kundalini yoga, can you tell us a bit about it?
White tantric yoga is practiced in straight lines, partners facing one another and in long form meditations for an 8 - 9 hour duration. When we practice in groups like this, the energy of our practice magnifies and a day of white tantric yoga is like practicing kundalini yoga meditations for many years.
Where do you teach? What workshops/retreats do you have coming up?
I teach publicly and privately in Los Angeles, Long Beach and Laguna.
Monday 7pm at Go Inward in Long Beach
Tuesday 6:30pm at The fullest in Laguna
Wednesday 11am at Yogalution in Long Beach
Thursday 10am at The Fullest in Laguna
I am very excited about my women’s group mentorship training called The UNCOIL Training that begins in March. This is about becoming a fully realized, devotional and masterful woman by creating a movement to an unobstructed self expression. You can be anywhere in the world and take this mentorship training and have a very close relationship with myself and the small group of women that are also in the group.
I specialize mostly in private sessions with clients but will also be launching my advisors training program in 2019!
Everything can be found on the new www.TaylorEyeWalker.com mid November!
